On Spirituality and Addiction

Image
Yesterday I came across an article on " Spirituality of Addiction ". The reaction was one of..."what?", disbelief, surprise. Do you mean to tell me there is spirituality on - of - addiction - one of the major causes of suffering in this world, a hell of hells? The author, a young woman by the name of Maria Mooney, link here , talks about addiction as... " Addiction is a disease of isolation , and as the individual sinks deeper and deeper into the disease, he/she becomes more isolated from others and oneself as deeply rooted feelings of inner insufficiency and not being “enough” create the overwhelming need to use."... So a ' dis-ease' of isolation: that is deep.   She continues: "A lack of connection to authentic self, important others, a higher power, and the larger community can each contribute to feelings of isolation and emptiness, low self-worth, and a pervasive sense of unhappiness that can contribute to and/or perpetuate addictiv...

Retirement starts...

Monday October 1, 2012: retirement's first Monday! Today the 2013 New Fiscal Year begins. As in 'politically hot potato': what will the nation's leaders do as regards the U.S.'s fiscal outlook and life in a world of diminishing (?) resources. The beginning of the end for the corner store, ...

It is a special day, given critical decisions for all the citizens of the United States: they'll go to the polls to put in a vote for the presidential candidate of their choice, and for Elected Officials, Constitutional Amendments, etc. What they decide upon based on their values, their past and present reality, their aspirations, their perceptions, and their inner - neurological - processes , will determine the balance of power - politically - in the US, and with that, two very distinct postures regarding the human condition for the future after that. Not only economically, but in terms of the approach to world affairs, to the role of the U.S. in the world, to societal, religious, economic, freedom, moral, war, environment domains, etc. Some of the more common themes are the tensions of capitalism vs. democracy, the individual vs. "we are all in this together and for each other", women's rights, immigrants' lives, land r...
