A life of ...action...not reaction!

Image
In my personal planner, those that come with a thought for each day, there was this two-liner for July 6, 2009, which caught my eye. It still is around, so that means that there is some meaning, maybe a learning, for me. So, I share with you: " A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction ." Rita Mae Brown

Taxes make this nation...blog! and protest! Bring the "tea" out!

Taxes!...is the operating word. Taxes, taxes, taxes. This must be the most divisive word in the North American - U. S., that is - lingo. If taxes increase, it becomes a reason to feel abused. If taxes decrease, "one had it coming"; it was one's right, and in many cases, one's good fortune. Good fortune for the generally accepted expectation is that taxes are an imposition, a highly undesired and detested mechanism, and in many instances an abuse by a central omnipotent force, that is totally unchallengeable. For millions it is a scary proposition, making April 14 (15th ?) a target date to practice will power against one's conscious and unconscious procrastination behaviors. Imagine having to face the specter of a visit by those IRS agents! Too many sleep disturbing thoughts! Given the present economic situation, and the world-wide economic situation...of which the US is in some measure responsible, ehem!...in which many around me - around us - are affected by the...

What would a baby say..."illegal..."...what is that?

I heard in the news that a California official was to present legislation barring services, even under extreme need, from illegal - undocumented, that is - persons, including the specially significant (for these minds at least) birth, neonatal services "in which billions are wasted", the voice seemed to say. This was part of a concerted legislative and ordinance effort to prevent services - and thus 'costs' - to be incurred in attending non - citizens' needs. Coincidentally, later on that day, reading a periodical - CAC's RadicalGrace - from an organization in Albuquerque, NM, I came across this wonderful 'write', the author of which bears a name - also coincidentally similar to a compassionate and very well known human rights activist in Atlanta: Azadeh N. Shahshahani. Hmmm...wonder what all of this means... Tell me where to be born People of the world, Tell me where to be born. If I were born in the land Of your “interest” Would you let me die...

Georgia allots $65 million for 1500 jail beds...a private "hotel" industry?

The blogs today were churning here in Georgia the news that CCA was announcing " the Expansion of Two Existing Facilities for a Contract Amendment " at the tune of...tadá!...$65, 000, 000. ( http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/07/prweb2600364.htm )( http://investor.shareholder.com/cxw/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=393333 ) Yes - that is $65, 000, 000 . In pennies, those copper "thingies" we used to not care about when unloading our purses or pockets at the end of the day, but which now seem to "count" every time we go buy groceries, that number becomes...6,500,000,000. Looks large, doesn't it? It is. And you know what it is for? Well at least we can have the 'illusion' of knowing by reading the Press release from the Corporation - CCA - that...:“... has enjoyed a partnership with the state of Georgia for more than 10 years ,” said Tony Grande, CCA chief development officer.", and that...“I think this award solidifies the work that we’ve done ...
