On my recent trip to Brussels, I was impressed with the efforts by the EU in integrating society. That is, efforts directed at bringing people together...!!!
Just imagine!
Well, recently I came across - again - an article by Jay Janson in http://www.opednews.com/articles/Immigration-Solution--kind-by-Jay-Janson-080802-503.html in which the author brings out a perspective of interest. "Immigration Solution? Kindness! Tex, Cal, Nevada, Utah, Parts of AZ, CO, NM, WY was Mexico"...!
In one sentence, he puts two tough arguments across: kindness, for one. (This one is for the pulpits across our State of Georgia!), and the annexation - no comment on how, yet - of all those 'bits and pieces' that were Mexico, into what is now the USA.
How does that play into today's immigration discussion? Do we have a short memory...or, given the psss-poor level of education in our schools, and therefore in our 'heritage', we know little, as a culture, as an 'age', of the annexation of those territories into 'the mainland?
To sort of 'end' the conversation, the author writes: "Those coming in from Mexico deserve American understanding. It would be a big step forward to respect a sense of history that has joined the culture and people of Mexico with that of America."
Have you ever had the experience of receiving back in your home the visit of the previous owner of the house? Have you ever gone thru that? Remember the feelings associated with that? At least, there is present a sense of hospitality, while deep inside there might be thoughts like..."look what I have done to 'your' house..."hope you like what I have done"..."ooopppsss, I did not intend to criticize your decoration taste when I took the wall paper/wall/door/threshold, etc. down!"...etc., etc.
No - we just don't want to be reminded that ..."they were here before". This was "their" land!
And the author finishes with:
"The single market and open borders of the twenty-seven nations of the European Union guaranteeing the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital through a standardized system of laws which apply in all member states gives a living and working example of what could be the future of the North America community of nations." ...Tákiti!...(onomatopeic expression of a "whap!" in PuertoRican lingo!)
Could you just imagine?...single market and open borders ...guaranteeing the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital...standardized system of laws...!
...isn't that the Republican dream?, no pun intended?
If the EU has it in place, why are we so far behind? Backward thinking?
I think I will share this with our Governor, and with those that favor and TOUT SO MUCH the "rule of law" in the Legislature, esp. those in the party having present troubles (hint?): this might be a good idea that they can use to resurrect Georgia. Maybe compete in the public image with the Feds, now that so many billions are being sent by the Feds to Georgia. What do you think?
