Easter...resurrection theme...
Easter is here, and soon it will be on its way out. Quick. Just a few hours left of it.
It indeed was a beautiful day. One filled with meaning. There is a sense of completeness, robustness, thoroughness...almost like an echo of the cry "It is done". Remember? "Re - member" words similar to those, very much part of these days' liturgy?
In addition to all the stories, and comments, and traditions, and myths particular to these days, and specially to today, the theme that was so prevalent to me was that of forgiveness. How could it be possible for someone in their final energies to find the 'wherewithal' to forgive those that brutalized, mocked, denied, ran away from, condemned, betrayed, abandoned, beat, nailed hands and feet, flagellated, judged, scorned...etc., etc., and finally allowed him to hang on the cross, naked (?), for asphyxiation to set in he moment when there would be no more energy left in the legs to push up so as to find the space for a breath. The ultimate letting go...but before that...the famous words of forgiveness...
Imagine.
Perusing some readings with this morning's coffee, came across this, from an Indian "Saint": Meher Baba. "To feel complete acceptance by another being is a wonderful thing. To find that someone has absolutely no negative reaction to the wrongness or un-understandability in one's life is worth more than all the gold in the world. It gives courage to be one's real self and to risk whatever might come". p. 206, "Listen Humanity".
Have you ever felt that? Isn't it special?
Meher Baba continues: "The individual is almost two persons: the outer self and the inner self, and very often they do not know how to be friendly with one another. Once another person is found who can accept one without a qualm, it is infinitely easier to accept oneself. The sting of sin and wrong-doing are removed. The black curtain is drawn aside and one may walk out as one's own friend. Only then does it become clear how badly one had been crippled by inner doubt and indecision."
What is it like to listen to my inner dialog? Friendly, amiable, compassionate, understanding, or, is it...judging, deprecating, shrieking, underestimating, condemning, whining...? Which one is it?
...
I can think of Mr. Rogers' words: "Will you be my friend?"
Whoa! What wisdom!!!
If the 2000-year old words are still echoing and ricocheting deep in the psyche of humanity, including me - really deep inside my innermost molecules, interstitial spaces, energies, my being - can I invite 'my-self' to be 'my-bestfriend'?
After my having done that, may I invite you to be my friend?
What an Easter!
