Airlines and us....wait! Not us, but U.S.!, as in United States!

A recent article by a blogger by the name of Dartagnan in the Daily Kos, really impressed me in multiple perspectives. The article is exceptionally well written. And it captures the experience - experiences - of today's traveler - by air, that is.

It relates how U. S. Airlines (btw, how many is that? - read and get shocked!) have taken advantage of present day economic conditions of the "people" (the majority of the population, that is) who are suffering the tyranny of inequality and who still believe in the economic "fantasy dream" of U.S. society - a dream so well and proficiently engendered by relentless marketing hypnosis, and its exceptionalism culture ~ especially the theory that the peaceful capitalism of the US constitutes an exception to the general economic laws governing national historical development(I right-clicked for that definition).

It spells out how we have experienced a decline in service quality while innocently feeling sorry for the airlines and the "immensely dire business conditions they have faced to be able to survive" (tears here...), to the point that their services have had to be scaled down and we have become such good "neighbors" that have paid, and will continue to pay dearly, for the measly handouts they extend as we "fly with them".

Reading the author's articulate expressions will surely either wake you up, or make your immune system boil. Or, maybe not! But for the 99% of those that can fly, that need to fly, and that do not belong to the famous 1%, the horizon Dartagnan paints, is real.

Why Airlines Collude To Make Flying As Miserable As Possible

Dartagnan closes his blog with what could be an outlook of things to come for the US population...as the airlines have already done, and as many other industries and businesses have done and may do, unless - we, the people - cry "foul!".

Dartagnan writes: "The sad fact is that the airlines represent the logical result of deregulated capitalism--this is truly the "invisible hand" of the free market leading, almost inexorably, to a profoundly dismal product.  What it suggests about the natural outcome of American capitalism may be even more disturbing."

We have seen examples in the pharmaceutical industry - and the cost of their products; also in research - vaccines, for example. How about "fracking" and its contamination? And...recent car recalls - in the millions - for safety reasons. And the food industry - its "re engineered" developments? How about the medical quality of services - comparable to other major countries in its quality and cost? Technology - your internet as fast and as cheap (price, that is; we know better, otherwise, ehem!) as in the other side of the world? Cameras, phones? How about your opportunities in the stock market...? ...your IRA account...?, etc., etc.

The scary part is the last sentence:  "...it suggests about the natural outcome of American capitalism may be even more disturbing." That is, If...If...regulators are nonexistent, and government - its elections and legislatures - have been, and are being "bought" by "Citizen Corporations", what is possible?...Can you still "dream"...? Really?

Disturbing.
